Gaming Hasn’t Prepared You For The Coronavirus

As gamers, we have the privilege of being able to travel to worlds of wonder in a variety of settings. From space and the old frontier to dystopian cities and kingdoms with mushrooms, there are plenty of engaging realms through which we can forget the harsh realities of life. Yet, one reality has hit us very harshly in recent times, and that is the coronavirus, which is not something that should be taken lightly.

There’s likely not too many people thinking this, but it can be imagined that some have become so confident in their gaming skills and engaged with their gaming hobby that the coronavirus is of little concern to them. Games focusing on disease outbreaks are fairly common. Of course, zombie games come to mind first and foremost when discussing this topic. In these situations, ordinary civilians become plagued with pretend diseases to the point of no return and, therefore, the only option is for the player to grab a shotgun and start blasting.

With COVID-19, as with any contagious virus, the “enemy” is, for all intents and purposes, invisible. Therefore, staying confined to the degree that you can (perhaps by playing video games) and limiting contact with others is are the best preventive measures against contracting the disease as well as spreading the disease.

Plenty of experts have been outspoken about this pandemic, warning people to distance themselves, telling them to not gather in groups of 50 or more, and otherwise explaining the impacts of COVID-19. Nobody is immune to the disease. The coronavirus will, indeed, manifest itself in different ways among different groups of people. For instance, those with underlying health conditions and in the elderly community are more likely to face complications than those in the healthier and younger crowds.

At the end of the day, listen to the professionals. It might be tempting to believe you’re invincible because you’re young or are not displaying systems, or you think you know your way around it due to having played a multitude of games. But, avoid this and take special care of yourself through these chaotic times.
