Best Games To Play If Bow And Arrows Are Your Weapon Of Choice
Most of us have our favorite types of games—from first-person shooters to fantasy RPGs. But more than that, many of us find ourselves searching for new games which revolve around (or rely heavily on) a certain weapon class. One of the most popular searches is for games that make good use of the bow and arrows. In no particular order, the following games are some options that might match what you’re looking for.
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
This is a multiplayer, epic, medieval battle game. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare was inspired by fantastic battle scenes from movies, and it does a great job of bringing that experience to the world of online games. You can master the sword, mace, bow, and other weapons to use for fighting against other players. Mastering the archer class in this game is difficult—as it’s easier to be killed—but it is also debatably the most effective class to play as, since you can easily pick people off from far away.
Mount & Blade: Warband
Mount & Blade: Warband can be a similar experience to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, but it also has the classic RPG mode as well, where you can travel the world and try to become the ruler of Calradia. Along the way, you encounter both foes and potential allies to recruit for your army. If you’re looking for a challenge when it comes to the bow and arrows, this game is probably a good choice for you.
Crysis 3
Crysis 3 is a blend of the first two Crysis games, so it’s set in post-apocalyptic New York City. The main character is inspired by the lead character in District 9, and it’s much more open than the previous games. Though technically classified as a first-person shooter, there is a lot of bow use in this game as well, given how powerful the Predator Bow is. Unlike many other games with a simple bow and arrow, this one has several different draw weights to decide between when using.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Playing as the outcast, Aloy, this story takes place in a land ruled by machines. Horizon Zero Dawn is a post-apocalyptic world where humans are not the dominant species, and they function with more of a “hunter-gatherer” feel. Due to this, Aloy relies quite heavily on the bow and arrows throughout the game. This game is one of the best out of all games with use of a bow, because there are numerous types of bows for different enemies, and the bows also have different strengths and abilities. This is undoubtedly my most recommended choice.
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a third-person, action-adventure game where you play as Lara Croft. In this game, you must fight against the Trinity organization and stop the upcoming Mayan apocalypse. While I admit that I wasn’t immediately drawn to this game, the use of the bow and arrows as the primary weapon captured my attention. There are different types of bows that you can get upgrades for over time, as well as different types of arrows.
Skyrim
Though many have played Skyrim by now, it must go on the list. Skyrim is an open-world, fantasy RPG. You can choose what type of build you want, and you can change it at any time by shifting your focus throughout the game. Being an archer in Skyrim is relatively simple, but training up your sneak level and assassinating people with your bow from the shadows is one of the best parts of the game.
