Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong: Profile Guide
- What Are Profiles?
- Do Profiles Matter In Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong?
Shortly after you start Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, you will be asked to select a Profile. You will be asked to do it for each of the three characters, and your choice determines what you can do whilst playing through the game’s various Scenes. Considering how integral the RPG mechanics are to the experience, this choice could get quite difficult to make.
Thankfully, this choice, whilst permanent, is not the be-all and end-all of the experience. Swansong has multiple other ways to handle just about every situation, and your initial choice can be “fixed” just as easily as it can be selected. It might just take a little while to get around to it.
What Are Profiles?
Profiles act as your starting class. There are a total of four Profiles – three of which are premade and designed to get you started quickly. You have:
What you choose will determine how you can interact with the world and characters you meet in the early game.
The investigator focuses more on conversational, technological, and deduction-based skills. If you want a class that can engage in a battle of wits, hack a PC, or pick a lock, then this Profile is for you.
The Veteran is more focused on skills like Intimidation and using Vampiric Disciplines to gain an advantage in conversations. This could be Domination or Presence based on the vampire in question.
This profile is exactly what it says on the tin. This Profile will invest stats in just about everything, letting you interact and communicate effectively in most areas of the game. The lack of specialization is clear, but in the early game, this is not an issue. Jack-Of-All-Trade is a great pick if you want to mess around with everything and then specialize later.
Custom is for the advanced player. You would pick this if you wanted complete control over how your characters start and grow. If you want to invest heavily into Domination so you can rush Iron Will, then go for it. This Profile is freedom incarnate, but it’s not for the beginner Swansonger.
Do Profiles Matter In Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong?
No, Profiles don’t matter in Swansong. Regardless of what you pick, any character can grow in any way you want them to. Experience is gained by completing objectives, so the important part of Swansong is to just play the game and build your stats. Your starting Profile can give you a bit of a boost, but it isn’t a set-in-stone decision that will fundamentally change how the game is played in the long run.
