Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath Gets Gyro Aiming
Sci-fi Western shooter Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is getting released on the Nintendo Switch next month, with new features like gyro aiming and faster frame rates. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath was developed by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by EA games in 2005. Originally an Xbox exclusive, it was re-released in 2010 for PC, and in 2011 for the PS3. The game was released to wide acclaim, earning a Metacritic score of 88/100 and getting nominated for numerous awards.
The game follows the Stranger, a mysterious bounty hunter who roams the wastelands of Western Mudos desperately searching for “Moolah” to have life-saving surgery. The Stranger helps the characters in the different towns by rounding up all the outlaws and scoundrels in the area. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath features many strange creatures from the Oddworld universe and has a unique gameplay style incorporating both first-person and third-person views. Instead of using traditional weapons like guns and bombs, the Stranger is more creative, using live creatures as ammo for his crossbow.
According to Tech Times, some of the upgrades for the Nintendo Switch include full 1080 HD graphics with 60 fps and faster loading times. One of the main changes is the introduction of gyro aiming, which will definitely spice up the gameplay. There will be a total of 12 hours of storyline and five hours of side-missions.
The announcement for the game’s release came through a 50-second video played during Nintendo’s annual The Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase event. Lorna Lanning, the co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants said, “We’ve rounded up some great new graphical and performance upgrades for the Nintendo Switch version of Stranger’s Wrath and we’re heading into the bounty store to deliver the best version of the game for Nintendo fans.”
Gyro aiming is becoming more and more popular, especially in shooting games where a split-second can be the difference between life and death. While conventional analog sticks get the job done, the sensitivity can be an issue, especially if there’s little or no aim assist. With gyro aiming, the player only has to tilt the controller in the required direction to get the crosshair on target.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is set to be released on January 23, 2020, but is already available for pre-purchase from the Nintendo eShop at a discounted price of $23.99. Players can get a taste of the Oddworld universe before the 2020 release of Oddworld: Soulstorm, Oddworld Inhabitants’ next release.
