Nintendo Has Trademarked Something Called Pokémon Design Lab
It seems like Pokémon is just about everywhere these days, and it doesn’t look like that trend will be dying out anytime soon. Nintendo is reportedly at it again, recently trademarking the named, “Pokémon Design Lab.” It’s unclear what exactly this will entail, but we’ve been given enough clues to take a few educated guesses.
While “Pokémon Design Lab” could mean almost anything, we’re fairly certain that it won’t be a new game that lets you design your own Pokémon. Instead, all signs are pointing towards the new property having a focus on Pokémon merchandise, which has always been a large source of profit for Nintendo.
“Pokémon Design Lab” sounds like it might be a sort of Build-a-Bear inspired store, where customers can design their own Pokémon with various outfits and expressions. The trademark also lists things like leather, household appliances, clothing, and manufacturing, which further confirms that merchandise will most certainly be the focus.
Given the success of Pokémon’s earlier collaborations with Build-a-Bear, we wouldn’t be surprised if that is the sort of brand that “Pokémon Design Lab” will consist of. Either way, all we’ve seen so far is a logo, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what Nintendo has planned. As cool as it sounds to put a pair of swimming trunks and sunglasses on a plush Gengar, we’ll just have to wait and see what “Pokémon Design Lab” is all about.
