Intel become worldwide sponsor of PUBG Global Invitational 2018

The PUBG Global Invitational 2018 is the first major esport venture for the Battle Royale title, Intel have joined the event as its key sponsor for the 2018 Invitational.

The American technology company will provide its hardware and software to the event, including each team using PC’s decked out in Intel products.

Richard Kwon, CMO PUBG Corp had this to say on the deal: “We’re delighted to join forces with Intel for PGI 2018, the first global PUBG esports tournament hosted directly by PUBG Corp. We believe the commitment Intel is making to the event will help us in further unlocking the potential of PUBG esports as we continue to expand our efforts to audiences around the world.”

Intel is not new to esports by any means. The Intel Extreme Masters series is a mainstay in the esports calender, while sponsorships of Edward Gaming, CLG Red and Invictus Gaming have kept the company in the public eye of esports. Intel also has a long-running partnership with ESL.

John Bonini, VP of the Gaming and Esports Group at Intel added: “As an official sponsor of the PGI 2018, Intel will help deliver the best gaming experience possible for the players and fans with our best gaming technology, including the 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processors. PUBG is a stellar example of the PC gaming industry’s continued leadership and we look forward to delivering a great event.

The PGI 2018 will feature 20 of the best PUBG teams from the qualifying regions face off at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany to compete for their share of $2m (£1.5m). The event will run from July 25-29th. The EU finals will take place this weekend at the Leicester’s Haymarket Theatre with teams battling for their spot in Berling and $100,000 (£76,490) in prize pool.

Esports Insider says: Big events need a big sponsor, you don’t get much bigger than Intel within gaming. PUBG needs to start off their esports life with a bang and partnering with one of esports most well-known brands should go a long way to fulfil that.
