Animal Crossing Role-Play Takes A Dark Turn In Garry’s Mod
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out today, but for those who can’t afford it, you can always turn to Garry’s Mod for some whole Animal Crossing roleplay.
Well, “wholesome” might be a bit of a misnomer. Apparently, this Garry’s Mod Server has a very different take on the world of Animal Crossing.
In Animal Crossing, you play as a villager interacting with various other animal-shaped people. It’s mostly a conversation game with some light personal sim elements and a bit of fishing. It’s very non-violent, which is a rare thing for a game these days, so it has a reputation for being rather wholesome.
Garry’s Mod is anything but wholesome. So when you cross Animal Crossing with Garry’s Mod, you get… well, this.
Here we see Twitch streamer Criken’s interaction on an Animal Crossing role-play server. Playing with his friend RJ, who assumed the form of a Tom Nook-style avatar, they immediately get held up by a gang of ducks who demand cash for their lives.
The ducks are clever too, holding Crikens and RJ at opposite ends of the cobbled street. “You went down the wrong path,” says the most menacing of the two ducks next to Crikens, using a voice modulator to sound even more intimidating. “Now give me my money!”
During what seems a moment of distraction, RJ attempts to break the standoff by pulling out a submachine gun–something that any player can do at any time in Garry’s Mod just by searching through a few menus. Unfortunately, Nook’s brave attempt at a rescue was cut short when the three gun-toting ducks all shot him dead.
“Last chance–give the duck his money,” says the third duck as it approaches Criken, having freshly slain RJ. At this point, Criken also goes into Garry’s Mod’s menus to produce a cheque, although it seems to have a sum of $0 written on it.
Before the ducks can realize they’ve been had, Criken leaps from the bridge and swims to safety. A daring escape from the wily Duck Gang!
