All Xbox One games will run on Xbox Series X confirms Microsoft
Backwards compatibility on Xbox Series X looks set to be considerably more substantial than PS5, as Microsoft clarifies their approach.
Microsoft has taken advantage of discontent over Sony’s recent PlayStation 5 livestream and promised that all Xbox One games will be backwards compatible on Xbox Series X from launch.
During Sony’s presentation they said only that only the top 100 PlayStation 4 games will work on PlayStation 5 at launch, which is good by previous standards but seemingly less than Microsoft is planning.
According to a tweet from the official Xbox account, ‘all games that are currently backwards compatible’ will run on Xbox Series ‘plus all Xbox One games’.
Backwards compatibility used to a be fairly low priority feature for new consoles, with few gamers granting it much importance and Sony actively discouraging it during the PlayStation 3 era.
During this generation, though, Microsoft has championed the feature, perhaps because of their lack of new first party titles, and successfully turned it into a stick with which to beat Sony.
And if it does turn out that the Xbox Series X supports every game on Xbox One, along with the majority of the Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, then that stick is only going to get heavier.
