TheShy is spamming top lane Kalista ahead of LPL return
Invictus Gaming top laner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok is preparing something special for his return to the LPL. Pointed out by analyst and coach Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi, the world’s best top laner has been spamming Sanguine Blade Kalista in the top lane with quite the win rate.
Now, Kalista is traditionally a bot lane champion, as she is fragile and needs a support, to which she can be bound the entire game, allowing for more efficient 2v2 trades. But bringing her to the top lane is not a terrible idea either.
With Sanguine Blade’s effect, Kalista gains attack speed and lethality if there’s only one or fewer visible enemy champions within range, which is exactly how the top lane plays out. By stacking even more attack speed and armor penetration, this now turns Kalista into very effective 1v1 trader. Furthermore, Kalista can bind herself to the jungler, empowering the ganks, or even the traditional bot lane carry.
This month alone, TheShy is 8-2 on Kalista games, with a KDA score of 74/50/42, or 2.32 ratio. Why the latter is certainly not as impressive, the fact that TheShy has an 80% win rate on a champion that has no business being in the top lane is noteworthy.
Whether or not TheShy will bring Kalista to actual LPL games remains to be seen, but their first matches after the break are good opportunities to test it. iG play Vici Gaming and Rogue Warriors in week 2.
