Respawn announces that Evo Shields are remaining in Apex Legends

The System Override event in Apex Legends may be over, but that doesn’t mean its mechanics are gone for good. Earlier today, Respawn Entertainment revealed that one of the event’s introductions, Evo Shields, is staying put in Season 4. This doesn’t come as a huge shock, as the shields seemed to be ready for the full game. However, most of the community thought the developers would rework the Evo Shields in some way before fully releasing them into Apex Legends. Is this a good decision by Respawn?

Evo Shields staying in Apex Legends Season 4

In their current state, Evo Shields only help you if you’re dealing a ton of damage. Nearly 1,000 damage is needed to fully upgrade the Evo Shield to red, which has one more shield bar than gold shields. However, Evos don’t possess the Fast Heal ability that’s available on the legendary shields.

While it’s a bit of a trade-off, most feel Evo Shields aren’t worth it over gold or even purple shields. This is why many in the community were asking for a rework. However, apparently Respawn feels the item is balanced as is.

System Override may have ended, but Evo Shields are here to stay. Find them in Ranked, Play Apex, and limited-time modes moving forward.

It’s unclear how this will affect the meta of Apex Legends. Presumably, most players will still equip regular shields unless they deal a huge amount of damage in the early game. Evo Shields shine the most when you don’t have to worry about enemies shooting back at you as much.

As of today, you can find Evo Shields in both the standard “Play Apex” game mode as well as Ranked Play. Respawn also announced they would be available in any special events that arrive in Apex Legends.
